School Description
With a passion for aviation and a fabric-winged aircraft called a Hisso Swallow, purchased with money saved from working around the airfield, Jim Galvin launched the first FBO (fixed base operation) in Seattle, Wash. Beginning his operation in 1930, and having been the only local FBO to survive the depression era, Galvin Flying Service is recognized today for having one of the first and finest independent FBOs in the country.

Galvin Flying Service's reputation for high standards, well-maintained aircraft, professional flight instructors, and student job placement assistance has been favorably recognized by leaders within the aviation industry for years. Galvin Flying is very proud of the fact that since founded, they have trained well over 18,000 pilots. Many flight students have gone on to become airline captains, first officers, co-pilots, corporate pilots, charter pilots and flight instructors.

When it comes to exam time, you will appreciate the in-house computer testing center and the training you have received from the professional staff. Qualified instructor pilots, including retired military pilots and active air operations pilots, can assist you with advanced airline prep work. Add to that an aircraft fleet that is one of the largest and is definitely the newest and most technologically advanced in the Northwest and you get virtually unlimited aircraft availability and training possibilities.

Galvin Flying Service offers a wide-range of FAA-approved flight training courses to fit the needs and goals of every individual. Integrated instruction programs that use only the best academic materials, combined with training in full-color visual simulators, and safety seminars are a few training tools its flight school has to offer. Galvin Flying Service looks forward to helping you achieve all of your aviation goals.

General Information:
Training Types - 141, 61, VA.
Visa Types - M1

Financial Aid:
SLM Financial, Pilot Finance, Seattle Metropolitan Credit Union, VA

Career Assistance:
Galvin graduates have achieved first officer positions with a number of regional and major airlines, and it maintains relationships with each of those organizations to provide transition for student candidates who qualify.

Instructors:
Galvin has the HIGHEST number of NAFI Master Certified Flight Instructors of ANY flight school in the United States. The National Association of Flight Instructors Master CFI status has been awarded to fewer than 600 of the 88,000 flight instructors in the country, and Galvin is at the top of the list. We're very proud of that status.

Curriculum:
Professional Pilot training offered for zero hour pilot candidates; ab initio programs for airline training; all certificates and ratings offered.

Training Environment:
Galvin is located at Boeing Field, Seattle, Wash., 98108 (KBFI); Class C airspace located under the shelf of SeaTac Class B; the Pacific Ocean moderates the climate, and the Olympic mountains immediately to the west and the Cascade Range immediately to the east means you're training in complex airspace with significant real-world aviation challenges; mountains, weather, icing, the very things a professional pilot needs to know and understand, not just read about. The flight environment is second-to-none in the world, visually stunning, with the San Juan Islands immediately north offering unparalleled recreation, and the close proximity of Vancouver, B.C. offers the opportunity for a professional pilot to practice international flights to Canada during his/her training.

Facilities:
Seattle is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The FBO is located on Boeing Field, (KBFI) or King County International Airport, which is five minutes south of downtown. GFS is a complete full-service FBO offering flight training, aircraft sales, aircraft service and maintenance, aircraft charter, line services and more. Its corporate terminal serves the majority of significant Northwest business aviation customers.

Its flight school facilities are second to none; it has pilot training classrooms, briefing areas, computer terminals for weather briefing and Internet access and MS Flight Simulator; GFS has nearby restaurants and is located just across the field from the world renowned Museum of Flight, second perhaps only to the Smithsonian for aviation museums in the U.S.

Aircraft:
Its fleet is comprised primarily of carbon-fiber composite 21st century aircraft with advanced avionics. Pilots who will be flying in the 21st century should NOT be learning in 20th century equipment. And professional pilots who will spend their entire careers in glass cockpits will need to train in that environment. But first, they'll need to have core stick and rudder skills, and GFS' fleet design is created to teach and facilitate each of these skills.

For private pilot training and core stick and rudder skills, GFS has 3 Diamond DA20 Eclipse, with Garmin 430 GPS systems. These aircraft are the same as is used by the U.S. Air Force Academy to train their private pilot candidates. You learn the basic skills, and are introduced to complex GPS navigation systems.

For the student moving on to an Instrument rating, GFS has two Diamond DA40 DiamondStar with Garmin G1000 glass panel avionics, and one DA40 with standard cockpit instrumentation, including a GNS 430 and 530 GPS. These aircraft will give you an intensive understanding of glass panel cockpits in the IFR environment.

And, for the commercial and multi-engine pilot who is moving to an airline career, GFS will be receiving, in April 2006, the first two of our fleet of Diamond DA42 TwinStars with Garmin G1000 and Thielert Diesel engines; these aircraft are the first new piston twins to be designed and manufactured in 20 years, and are the single most exciting flight training development currently.

For those who wish to fly the fastest four seat single engine production aircraft, GFS has a Columbia 400, certified to 25,000' with IAS of 230 knots.

For stall/spin awareness training, GFS has the Zlin 242 aerobatics aircraft.

In addition, its fleet includes a Cessna 172 with Garmin G1000, a Cessna 182, Cessna 206, Piper Seminole, and six modern Cessna 172 S models.

Simulators:
Frasca 142 with GNS 430 and KLN 94; Elite PC-ATD and in spring 2006 a Garmin G1000 for DA40 and DA42 TwinStar.
